The Department of Pediatrics at Harbor-UCLA includes a diverse research agenda among faculty and many research opportunities for interested residents.

These efforts are supported by the National Institutes of Health (including a Perinatal Clinical Research Center and General Clinical Research Center), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, other non-profit research foundations such as the National Foundation/March of Dimes and the American Heart Association, and by industry-sponsored grants and contracts.

Dr. Jennifer Yee receives Liu Young Investigator Award, Weitzman Award | February 26, 2010

Dr. Jennifer Yee (Faculty, Div. of Pediatric Endocrinology and Metabolism) has been named the recipient of the 2010 Liu Young Investigator Award and the 2010 Weitzman Award.

These awards are given annually to an outstanding young investigator at the Los Angeles Biomedical Research Institute at Harbor-UCLA. Dr. Yee completed her pediatric endocrinology fellowship training here at Harbor-UCLA and became a faculty member in 2007. Her main research interest is in the mechanisms of the development of obesity. She is currently using stable isotope techniques to study the fatty acid metabolic pathways in a rat model of prenatal nutritional programming of adult obesity. In parallel, she is also studying the plasma fatty acid composition of infants exposed to in utero nutritional imbalance. The goal of these projects is to evaluate fatty acid pathways as potential targets for obesity prevention. Dr. Yee is also studying the timing of development of cardiovascular disease in young adults with Type 2 Diabetes.

Congratulations!
