Steve Harris Memorial Charity Continues to Support Harbor-UCLA Pediatrics
On September 24, the Steve Harris Memorial Charity held its tenth annual charity event and auction. All funds raised by the Steve Harris Memorial Charity benefit the Department of Pediatrics Division of Hematology and Oncology.
This year the Steve Harris Memorial Charity expanded its longstanding effort to provide support for children receiving treatment at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center for cancer or hematological conditions by creating the Kids' Dreams Do Come True Charity.
In 2010, the non-profit organization established an endowment fund with a sizable donation of $50,000. In addition, a portion of the funds raised by the Steve Harris Memorial Charity were used to create an Infusion Center. Children with cancer or hematological conditions often undergo frequent transfusions, chemotherapy, and the administration of other medications - which can take several hours. The Infusion Center is a colorful and cheerful environment where children can receive these treatments. With a nursing staff trained in cancer therapies, comfortable infusion chairs, portable televisions, video game consoles, and a lounge area for family members, this addition to the Pediatric Clinic helps make difficult times easier for kids.
Harbor-UCLA Pediatrics is grateful to the Steve Harris Memorial Charity for its continued support.
