Research Focus:
My research focuses on genetic factors related to the development of intestinal tumors. Our recognized discoveries are: the first large, population genetic study of acetylation (NAT2) mutations; the first gene-diet interaction associated with cancer (GSTM1-sulforaphane); and prostaglandin D2 as a molecule that suppresses intestinal tumors. Our current work is on the role of prostaglandin D2 in suppressing intestinal tumors. The work is relevant to potential approaches for prevention or treatment of familial adenomatous polyposis and sporadic colorectal neoplasia. Clinical activities within the department are focused on the practice of medical genetics.
